Open-Air-Kino -Trees Time Architecture!

Am Donnerstag, den 24.07.2025 um 20:30 Uhr, findet vor dem Haupteingang der Pinakothek der Moderne ein Open Air Kino organisiert von dem Architekturmuseum der TUM statt. Es werden die Filme „Weaving Time“ (Kristina Pujkilovic) und “Taming the garden” (Salomé Jashi) gezeigt.

On a mild summer evening under the open sky, next to the installation „Baumlager,“ we warmly invite you to our open-air cinema! Two powerful documentary films will be shown, each weaving together nature, culture, and architecture in different but equally moving ways.

FILM 01 WEAVING TIME

*Weaving Time* portrays the people of Meghalaya (India), who, over generations, have created and maintained living root bridges made from the tree *Ficus elastica*. This unique form of architecture is a powerful expression of collective responsibility: while men guide the structural shaping of the roots, women sustain the bridges through their daily use.

This cooperation is deeply rooted in the matrilineal system of the Khasi, in which knowledge and property are passed down through the female line.

The bridges are more than just functional infrastructure – they are spiritual places within a living understanding of nature that calls for respect and protection.

But this delicate balance is under threat: from tourism, economic interests, and climate change.

The film reveals the beauty and vulnerability of this cultural heritage – and shows that architecture is not a static object, but a transgenerational, social, and living process.
