Negotiating the Nude

How have art and art history negotiated the unclothed body from the 1860s to the present? The conference „Negotiating the Nude: Unclothed Bodies in Art and its Historiographies (1860s–2026)“ explores shifting ideas of nudity, representation, desire, identity, and power. Bringing together perspectives from art history, visual culture, museum studies, and aesthetic theory, it critically reassesses the canon, its exclusions, and the changing meanings of unclothed bodies in art from global and de-centred perspectives.
